En It
NAPALM is a non-profit association and professional contemporary dance and theatre company committed to creating artistic performances and engaging audiences.
In addition to artistic production—which sometimes involves members of local communities—since 2008 the organization has developed a structured educational program. Activities engage a wide variety of participants, with particular attention to young adults and adults up to over 70 years old. Over the years, NAPALM has collaborated with schools of all levels, day centers, amateur theatre groups, cultural associations, companies, theatres, and other organizations.
NAPALM’s educational approach is based on the value of the performing arts. Programs are non-professional, aiming at self-discovery and participant empowerment. All activities are open without discrimination based on gender, origin, faith, or social status.
The organization has also developed programs to build soft skills for companies and the general public (e.g., public speaking courses). NAPALM has participated in projects promoted by businesses and municipal administrations on environmental issues, using theatre as a tool for awareness, as well as initiatives in sustainability education.
The educational offer is designed to be inclusive and integrative, with a particular focus on adults (17–75 years old). Its central location in Porto allows access to a diverse group of participants in terms of gender, nationality, faith, and social background.
Over time, children, adolescents, and adults have taken part in various activities. Some programs involve highly diverse groups—including students, teachers, healthcare workers, artists, judges, journalists, public officials, entrepreneurs, consultants, salespeople, unemployed people, retirees, and engineers—while others are targeted at specific groups such as the elderly, commercial sector workers, or art students. The organization has also hosted interns from Portugal, Brazil, and South Korea.
