Founded in 1989 in Perugia, Smascherati! makes theatre a space for intercultural exchange. Our work brings together diverse human experiences and cultures through theatre and artistic expression.
We have collaborated with renowned theatre masters and artists, including Eugenio Barba, Pierre Byland, Marisa Fabbri, Jacques Lecoq, and theatre-dance artists such as Malou Airaudo, Bénédicte Billiet & Julie Ann Stanzak (Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch).
Our activities focus on intercultural communication, social inclusion, and respect for human diversity. Over the years, we have partnered with local, national, and international institutions, including the Umbria Region, University of Perugia, Italian Ministry of Culture, Italian Cultural Institute in China, and universities in Germany, China, and North Macedonia.
In 1994, we launched Human Beings, an international intercultural theatre laboratory, and in 2011, Teatro Rifugio, a workshop for refugees and asylum seekers. We coordinated the KA210 project “TheatreTRAILS”, recognized as a good practice, and continue to explore the intersection of human diversity, the natural world, and environmental sustainability in projects such as Perform4Change and KA210 VOCE.
Every year, our intercultural theatre workshops welcome over 100 participants from around the world. Our methodology is internationally recognized as highly inclusive and effective. Workshops are open to all and free, ensuring that disadvantaged individuals can fully participate.
